Tobacco Industry Highjacking SDGs

New analysis available (HERE) on how the tobacco industry is highjacking the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We all know about the burden this industry puts on achieving sustainable development. At the same time, cigarette corporations are among the first adopters of SDG rhetoric Рwhile failing to acknowledge that tobacco control is part of the goals. The case study exposes that the industry uses the SDGs as a smokescreen for old strategies to circumvent regulation. This way, the example of tobacco companies is a cautionary tale that shows the limitations of corporate engagement in the SDGs and the need for governments, international institutions as well as civil society to protect the SDG process from undue corporate influence.
