The Human Rights and Tobacco Control Network promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to tobacco control through human rights advocacy, policies, and treaties, including work with the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The organization aims to raise awareness of human rights violations due to tobacco such as the impact tobacco has on children’s rights to healthcare, education, and food. By educating a diverse group of people ranging from human rights advocates to medical professionals to the general public on these issues, HRTCN hopes to promote an entirely new approach to tobacco control – one where the driving impetus is an acknowledgment of the inalienable rights of humans across the world.
